While investigating a mountain ridge facing Machu
Picchu using
aerial infra-red scanning technology, a team of archaeologists have
discovered a previously unknown series of
high-status sacred ceremonial buildings scattered over at least a
square mile of jungle. They also rediscovered seven other
buildings which had originally
been found in 1912 but lost again due to incomplete reporting of
their location. Preliminary examination of the ruins suggests that the
complex was a
large religious centre used for ceremonies and astronomical
observations. [link]
